In this work the artist is exploring their racial identity and the perception others may have of it in surreal representational work that draws inspiration from personal experiences as a black gender queer individual. Exploring feelings regarding race, self worth, body dysmorphia, gender dysmorphia, & mental health this piece is representative of how they feel others perceive them because of the complex worlds they identify with. The inspiration for this piece came from thoughts relating to violence enacted on the black and queer community worldwide and why these events were taking place at all. The idea was that perhaps to those who do not identify or understand these communities view those who do as grotesque dangerous monsters that threaten their comfort.
